On Thursday 8th June, The Shooting Grounds hosted the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust London Clay Day. Participants gathered on the sunny terrace to enjoy a refreshing start with teas and coffees, accompanied by a welcoming speech from Dylan Williams, the Master of Ceremonies.

Teams embarked on eight challenging stands that included the use of a black powder gun and Holland & Holland 'Royal' shotgun. Eley Hawk generously donated the cartridges for the day.

After a thrilling afternoon of shooting, the guests reconvened on the terrace, sipping champagne as they prepared for a delicious supper. The menu featured tantalizing dishes, including rabbit terrine, filet of venison, and a delightful lemon posset. The game meat was kindly provided by Willo Game.

The fundraising activities commenced, adding an element of anticipation and excitement. A tense heads & tails round preceded a captivating auction, which showcased incredible experiences such as the Holland & Holland Experience, a shooting lesson with GWCT's Charity Ambassador Olympian Matt Coward-Holley, and a Land Rover Driving Experience combined with a stay at the Luton Hoo Hotel, generously donated by Inchcape.

Thanks to the generosity of all involved, the GWCT successfully raised £5,740 through these fundraising endeavours.

Every GWCT event plays a crucial role in supporting their vital work. Through conducting research and translating the results into practical policies, practices, and public awareness, the GWCT actively addresses the biodiversity crisis. By offering guidance to those who farm and manage 72% of the countryside, they have proven solutions that enhance wildlife populations. Their commitment to finding answers and implementing them in practice allows their impact to far exceed their size.
